Mejeriet Thorup

Diary & Artist Studio transfromation to cultural centre in rural Sjælland

600 sqm
2025-ongoing

Djernes & Bell are transforming Mejeriet i Thorup—a place where history, art, and landscape converge. Once a dairy and later a thriving artist’s enclave, Mejeriet is now evolving again through a regenerative and place-sensitive transformation.

The project honors Mejeriet’s creative legacy while introducing subtle architectural interventions that strengthen its presence in the landscape. A newly envisioned garden and café space provide a setting for gathering, reflection, and exchange, where Preben Boye’s sculptures stand in dialogue with nature and built form.

At the intersection of architecture, art, and ecology, Mejeriet reaffirms its role as a dynamic cultural landmark—rooted in local heritage yet open to the world.
